On August 22nd, RLS, in cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce in Afghanistan, hosted a presentation on recent developments in Afghanistan’s tax law. The presentation addressed recent legislative changes, including the Law on Taxation Affairs Administration, coming legislative changes, including the Draft Income Tax Law and the Value Added Tax Law, and various implementation issues. RLS focused on a number of pressing issues that will particularly affect international companies doing business in Afghanistan, including additional penalties under the new Law on Taxation Affairs Administration, and burdensome filing requirements that are disadvantageous to both private enterprise and the Afghan government. Attendees were then invited to ask questions and to discuss any other tax issues that were of concern.
Members of the NGO and private sector community attended the presentation, along with representatives from various Afghan government ministries.
